Fragility Analysis of Transmission Towers Subjected to Downburst Winds

A downburst is a typical local highly intensive wind all over the world, which attributed to be main cause of damage transmission lines in inland areas worldwide. The collapse accidents towers under still occur every year. Therefore, it great significance assess safety downbursts. motivation present study propose fragility assessment method for action considering uncertainty wind-resistance capacity and stochastic load effect. First, field tower with different attack angles radial distances simulated according mixed model. Then, random material characteristic samples are generated by Latin hypercube sampling technique applied establish uncertain finite element models towers. Next, static nonlinear buckling analysis carried out numerical methods determine ultimate load. parameter between conducted most unfavorable location maximum response. failure mode probabilities initial members summarized. Finally, curves atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) compared. results show that response located at R = 1.6D. Most close first section tower. more dangerous than ABL angle increasing from 0° 90°. Furthermore, probability model intensity direction based on previous analysis, caused obtained. By parameters, including layout conditions, directions, speeds, found favorable arrangement 157.5°, 112.5°.
